This painting started life looking very different and is one of those times when you make something you like and therefore don’t want to paint over it, even though you know it’s not what you really wanted. So I put it out of sight for about a year and when I came across it again I was ready to move it forward, adding collage for texture and new colours and layers.
What I really like about this painting is that it’s about looking into a rockpool to see what likes beneath – the colours, shapes, textures – so it ended up being quite fitting that I’d created something else beneath the surface.
